Saturday Night Was A Good Night (II)
Now for the bands. First up were 'Tiger Baby', a silky-smooth electro pop trio from Denmark. Two guys, one girl – two keyboards, one amazing voice. The sound was somewhere between happy bubblegum fluffy pop and melancholy new wave. They did a somewhat 'happy' cover of Depeche Mode's 'Strangelove' for example. Playing the warm up for 'The Fashion' with their calm, intellectual sound and the beautifully fragile voice of Penile Pang (which, by the way, wasn't the only thing beautiful about her) they seemed somewhat misplaced and therefore the Loppen audience wasn't too enthusiastic about them. Too bad, the very nice live sound would have deserved more than three dancing girls and about 50 skeptic faces keeping well off in the distance. For more information check their website tigerbaby.dk or myspace.

The second act of the night and therefore the main act were 'The Fashion', a danish band as well, who played indie pop-rock with some electro influences. They seem to have achieved somewhat of a local fame because as soon as Pernile and her two boys had left, the first so hesitant crowd sudenly huddled towards the stage. The backfitting of the equipment was quickly done, so after not more than fifteen minutes the five guys were enthusiastically cheered into the room. With a two sentence welcome and no further ado they then started what would turn out to be a very energetic and sweaty performance. The people lost their oh-so-danish reluctance and started dancing their asses off! Although the lead singers very emo-like stance didn't seem to change for a single second and the whole party lasted for only an hour (with occasional breaks in which the bands was handed beer and Jaegermeister shots) it was definately worth seeing. And I truly believe that these guys would be able to have a shot at the international market. See them strut their stuff on thefashion.dk or myspace.

So after two hours of waiting and two hours of performances I actually went home a pretty happy camper. Not before having bought both bands new album of course :)
Oh, and by the way. If you ever wondered where all the 'small' danish girls are: they all dress up alternative/punk/skater style and go to indie concerts in Christiania.
